“ Wow a renowned establishment specializing in authentic Danish pastries, breads, cookies, and cakes. Founded in 1970 by Bent Olsen, a third-generation master baker from Denmark, the bakery has become a staple in Solvang's rich Danish heritage. A must..Danish Custard Kringle, Almond Tarts, and Butter Rings. The bakery also offers an authentic RundsTykker Danish Continental Breakfast, featuring freshly baked hard rolls served with homemade jam and Danish cheese. Solvang, often referred to as the "Danish Capital of America," is a charming city in the Santa Ynez Valley, known for its Danish-inspired architecture, cultural events, and a variety of European bakeries and shops. Open daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Given its popularity, especially during peak tourist seasons, it's advisable to arrive early to enjoy.. ”
“ Very tasty but I likely won't line up 30min+ again for this. I'm fortunate to live in the SF bay area where pastries of this quality aren't rare. Worth noting that their almond-flavored pastries are extraordinary and don't have that artificial almond flavor found everywhere else! ”
“ Such a cute bakery! My second time here and I try to come when I visit Solvang. This place always has a line on the weekends. They offer coffee with pastries. They have some tables inside to enjoy here. I had to get the bucket off Danish cookies. It's a must! Also picked up some pastries for the road. Pistachio bars - my mom loved it and ate them all so I didn't get to try it *sigh* Raspberry danish - yummm! This was my fave. Cheese danish Cream puff - this was ok. Thought it was way too much whipped cream ”
“ Charming bakery! There are plenty of bakeries to visit in Solvang but THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! Authentic danish pastry and a wide variety of sweets to try! I love anything almond and I tried the kransekake which is apparently like a log wedge of the almond ring cake. Some googling told me that this cookie is traditionally stacked up to form a Christmas-tree like structure as a holiday treat. Okay enough about that - the cookie itself has a shortbready exterior and strong almond filling. It was so good and I wish I had bought more. The danishes here were exceptional and had a great texture. I will be definitely be back! ”
“ If you're looking for an authentic taste of Denmark, Mortensen's Danish Bakery is the place to go! From the moment you walk in, the smell of freshly baked pastries fills the air, making it impossible to leave empty-handed. The selection is incredible--flaky, buttery Danishes, rich almond pastries, and perfectly crisp kringles are just the beginning. Each item is beautifully crafted, and you can taste the care and tradition in every bite. My personal favorite is the Cherry Cheese Danish: the balance of sweet, tart, and buttery goodness is out of this world. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and always happy to recommend their specialties. The atmosphere feels like stepping into a cozy European bakery, with warm lighting and delightful displays of colorful treats. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee and pastry or stocking up for a special occasion, Mortensen's never disappoints. It's a true gem for pastry lovers, and I can't recommend it highly enough. ”
“ This is a popular bakery in downtown Solvang. It's across the street from the inn where we stayed during our visit. We were given a voucher (card) for our party of two to have a traditional Danish breakfast at Olsen's. We did not pass up the offer. Olsen's is very charming from the exterior and the line out the door showed its popularity. As soon as we crossed the threshold into the bakery/restaurant, we could smell the coffee and see the beautifully arranged tables for dine-in guests. The bakery was filled with breads, rolls, butters, jams, pastries and so much more. Connected to the bakery was a souvenir shop that we did not visit. Although the line was long, it moved quickly. The employees were friendly and answered any questions we had as first time visitors. We even had the opportunity to meet the owner and baker, Mr. Olsen, as he came out to say good morning! What a treat that was! Once we received our order we returned to our room at the inn to eat breakfast. We enjoyed an Earl Grey iced tea, Orange and Spice hot tea, cinnamon roll, almond pastry, sesame roll and ciabatta roll, with butter, cheese and jam. It was delicious. The cinnamon roll was soft and perfectly sweet, not overdone. The almond pastry was flavorful, buttery and flaky. The roll was soft and delicious, especially with the butter. The decor, the atmosphere, the friendly service and the delicious baked goods make this a necessary destination for anyone visiting Solvang! ”
